Research Interests

My research interests revolve around the food/water/energy nexus, especially as it relates to controlled environment agriculture. How can we grow more food with less water and energy? How can we strike a balance to achieve food and water security without significant use of fossil fuels? How can we provide clean, fit-for-purpose water where it is needed at an economical cost and with a low environmental footprint? Greenhouses, vertical farming, hydroponics, and aquaponics systems with associated support systems and inputs, including cooling, heating, water, energy, light, nutrients, and labor must all be managed and balanced to strike an equilibrium that is beneficial to society and the planet
