Research Interests
Yao's research focuses on developing stress-resilient rootstocks for watermelon using chromosome doubling in interspecific Cucurbita hybrids. I generate tetraploid squash rootstocks and investigate whether they can improve the performance of grafted watermelon under stresses such as drought, heat, salinity, and disease.
