Stephanie Saade

Stephanie graduated from the Lebanese American University with a Bachelors degree in biology in 2009.  Stephanie’s PhD project focuses on identifying loci contributing to the various components of barley salinity tolerance. To achieve this goal, she is applying a forward genetic approach using barley mapping populations grown in the greenhouse (The Plant Accelerator, Adelaide, Australia) and field conditions (ICBA, Dubai, UAE).

Research Interests

I am working with the crop plant barley (Hordeum vulgare) to identify loci that contribute to salinity tolerance. I am using two barley populations to perform forward genetics analyses. For this, several components of salinity tolerance are being investigated, such as shoot ion-independent salinity tolerance, yield, and yield-related traits. A genome-wide association study is conducted with genotypic data from 9K iSelect SNP Chip and phenotypic data from both controlled (high-throughput phenotyping in a greenhouse) and field conditions.
